Janet Jackson reveals initial tour dates
A handful of shows have been announced for the upcoming Janet Jackson tour, which will see the superstar return to the road for the first time in seven years.
The North American outing is scheduled to kick off Sept. 10 in Vancouver and, so far, dates have been confirmed in Montreal, Toronto, Washington, DC, and East Rutherford, NJ. The trek is expected to visit major markets across the US, according to a press release, which added that more cities will be announced shortly.
Tickets for the first round of shows will go on sale to the general public beginning June 7. Concert-goers who join Jackson's soon-to-be-launched fan club will have access to pre-sale tickets starting May 30, and Citi cardmembers will have their shot June 2. Details about the fan club are available at the performer's website.
The "Rock Witchu" tour supports Jackson's 10th studio album, "Discipline," which debuted at the top of The Billboard 200 in March. In addition to performing new material, the star is expected to revisit hit songs and dance routines from her illustrious career.
Jackson, who turned 42 last week, said she hadn't planned to wait so long between road trips.
"I was supposed to go on tour with the last album," Jackson told the Associated Press, referring to her 2006 release, "20 Y.O." But she said her record label wanted her to wait for the new CD.
"We were actually in full-blown tour rehearsals at that point ... learning numbers, getting everything together, set designs," she said. "I had to kind of shut everything down and go into the studio."
Jackson has sold more than 100 million albums and landed the top spot on The Billboard 200 six times. The Grammy winner is the only performer ever to score nominations in each of the pop, rock, dance, rap and R&B categories, and she is the first female recording artist of color to be nominated for a Producer of the Year Grammy, according to a press release.
