'Sweet' sales prompt more Madonna dates
Madonna continues to pile multiple shows onto her October/November North American tour as tickets fly off the shelves.
Since last check, instant sellouts in Toronto and Montreal prompted both markets to add second nights, which also sold out. A second show has also been tacked on to meet the demand in Chicago; that date goes on sale June 2.
The US/Canadian run, which is scheduled to kick off Oct. 4 in East Rutherford, NJ, has also logged sellouts in New York City (three shows), Boston and Vancouver, where 50,000 tickets were snapped up in a record-breaking 29 minutes, according to a press release.
November shows, which stretch from California to Florida, go on sale beginning this weekend. Fans should note that a previously announced Philadelphia date has been moved to Nov. 20. The North American itinerary is listed below.
Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" world tour will roll out in late August with a month-long European jaunt. The trek will also visit Mexico and South America later this year, according to a press release. International dates confirmed thus far can be found at the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's website.
The outing supports Maddy's 11th studio album, "Hard Candy," which surfaced last month and became her seventh No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The lead single, "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake, has reached the one-million mark in digital sales and remains in the Top 10 on the Hot 100 chart after nine weeks.
The new set follows 2005's "Confessions on a Dance Floor," which has sold more than 8.5 million copies. Madonna's 2006 tour to support that album reached 1.3 million fans in 25 countries, and became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time by a female artist, according to a press release.
On the upcoming trek, Maddy is expected to outdo her herself in terms of production, technology, singing, dancing and costume changes, according to tour producer Live Nation, which added that a special stage is being created to showcase the superstar, her band and troop of dancers.
