John Mayer expands summer outing
John Mayer has added another run of dates to his upcoming summer tour, which will come just as he drops a new live CD/DVD collection.
As previously reported, Mayer will roll out the BlackBerry-sponsored trek July 2 at Milwaukee's Summerfest. Colbie Caillat and Brett Dennen will join him on the first leg, which is scheduled to visit US cities from coast-to-coast, as well as Toronto, through early August. The newly announced second leg launches August 19 in Charlotte, NC, and sticks to the East Coast through the end of the month. Paramore will open the first couple of shows on that run, and OneRepublic will take over from there. Mayer's full itinerary is listed below.
Pre-sale tickets for the new dates will be available through Music Today beginning Monday (6/2), and the general public will have access June 7.
Mayer recently said in a blog posting that, in addition to his hits, setlists will include favorite blues tunes and covers of "songs that have moved me," with a goal of "introducing some music to people who might've not found it otherwise." His website will invite fans to vote for encores, and include fan-shot video footage and photos from shows, according to a press release.
The singer/songwriter/guitarist is also gearing up for the July 1 release of "Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles," which was filmed last December at the Nokia Theater. The two-CD/DVD and Blu-Ray package features three distinct sets: an acoustic performance, a set with the John Mayer Trio (featuring Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino), and a performance with Mayer's full band.
The live collection follows Mayer's 2006 Grammy-winning release, "Continuum," which spawned the No. 1 adult-contemporary track "Waiting on the World to Change." The album also includes the hit song "Dreaming With a Broken Heart" and Mayer's latest single, "Say," which is currently climbing pop and mainstream radio charts.
