Coldplay postpones North American tour launch

British pop-rockers Coldplay , who were due to launch their world tour in North America later this month, have pushed back the kick off due to "production delays."

"We're very sorry, but unfortunately Coldplay have had to move the dates of some of the previously-announced US shows," reads an announcement posted today (6/10) at the group's website. "The band have experienced some production delays which mean that the show simply won't be ready for June 29. It's very frustrating but they promise you a show worthy of your patience and understanding when they start in mid-July."

The group's tour schedule, which originally was set to get underway June 29 in Philadelphia, will now commence with a two-night stand in the Los Angeles area July 14-15, with the first leg wrapping up in Boston Aug. 4; the second leg is scheduled to launch in late October and run through late November. The new itinerary is included below.

Tickets for the originally scheduled shows will be valid on the make-up dates, and refunds are available at the point of purchase for ticketholders who are unable to attend the rescheduled shows, according to organizers.

A previously announced free concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden remains intact for June 23, according to the group's website.

Coldplay's impending roadtrip will support its forthcoming album, "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends," which features the lead single "Violet Hill." Slated to hit North American record outlets June 17, the new set was produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.

"Viva la Vida" follows Coldplay's 2005 Grammy-nominated set, "X&Y," which entered The Billboard 200 at No. 1 and has since sold more than 10 million copies on the strength of modern-rock/pop hits including "Talk," "Fix You" and "Speed of Sound."
