GZA/Genius maps solo trek
Wu-Tang Clan member GZA/Genius is warming up with a few scattered shows over the next month as he prepares to kick off a North American solo tour in late August.
The rapper, known as Wu-Tang's most cerebral MC, is set to launch the outing Aug. 21 in Los Angeles. After a few California gigs, he'll make his way through the Midwest and the South, wrapping in mid-September with a run of dates on the East Coast. Details are listed below.
On the road, GZA is expected to perform his classic 1995 album, "Liquid Swords," in its entirety. He'll also debut material from his forthcoming set, "Pro Tools," according to various reports. A release date for the new record has not been announced.
GZA released his fourth solo album, "Legend of the Liquid Sword," in 2002. That set, which features the rap hit "Fame," includes beats by fellow Wu-Tang brother RZA, as well as Jaz-O, DJ Muggs, Wu producer Mathematics and Arabian Knight.
GZA was the only Wu-Tang Clan member to release a solo album (1991's "Words From the Genius") before the group's formation, according to All Music Guide. When his record deal crumbled, he teamed with cousins Ol' Dirty Bastard and RZA to form the Clan with several other friends and associates. Together, they took the rap world by storm with their 1993 debut, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)."
Wu-Tang dropped its latest album, "8 Diagrams," in December and set out on a six-week US tour.
