Martin Sexton sows 'Seeds' across America

Hard-touring soul man Martin Sexton continues to support last year's "Seeds" with a North American road trip that stretches into December.

The critically acclaimed singer/songwriter's in-progress summer tour continues Friday (7/4) at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Following about a dozen more US and Canadian performances, including several festivals, Sexton will segue into his fall solo outing. He's got a steady stream of US dates lined up from early October through mid-November, as well as a mid-December two-night stand in his adopted hometown of Boston.

Sexton also has plans to join a slew of other acts on the five-day Jam Cruise 7, which leaves from Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jan. 4, and visits Belize City, Belize, and Costa Maya, Mexico. Details about the cruise can be found at the performer's website and his tour itinerary is listed below.

In April of last year, Sexton released his seventh album, "Seeds," on his own Kitchen Table Records label and snagged the No. 17 spot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The set delves into a range of genres--gospel, country, blues, rock and pop--and features guest artists including Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and one-man jam band Keller Williams.

Sexton's 2007 outing, which featured a four-piece band playing many of the unorthodox instruments used on the album (a water jug, minnow bucket and AM radio), was his fastest-selling to date, according to his publicist.

"Seeds" marks Sexton's second release on his own label following 2002's double-CD live set, "Live Wide Open." The fiercely independent musician previously recorded for Atlantic Records but asked to be released from his contract, according to his bio.
