The Swell Season returns to the US for fall dates

Singer/songwriters Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova have lined up another run of dates behind the 2006 album they recorded together, " The Swell Season ."

The Irish Hansard--who doubles as lead singer for Dublin rockers The Frames--and Czech singer/pianist Irglova will kick off the run with an Aug. 9 appearance at the Baltimore edition of the Virgin Festival. After another pair of East Coast shows, the duo will return for a more formal headlining run the following month, launching the outing Sept. 17 in New York City. Details are included below.

The duo produced "The Swell Season" in 2006, representing Hansard's first release outside of his work with The Frames. The title originally referred only to the album produced by the two performers, but the pair later began using the The Swell Season as a name for the act as well.

The album contains the song "Falling Slowly," featured in the film "Once," in which Hansard and Irglova also starred. Ex-Frames bassist John Carney directed the film.

"Falling Slowly" earned the pair the Oscar for Best Original Song at February's Academy Awards ceremony, in which Irglova was famously cut off following Hansard's acceptance speech and later personally invited back onstage by host Jon Stewart to give her thanks for the award.

The Frames' most recent album, "The Cost," was released early last year in the US, and follows 2005's "Burn the Maps." The band recorded the set at France's Black Box Studios with its longtime producer (and former lead guitarist), David Odlum, at the helm.

The group released a deluxe edition of "The Cost" earlier this year through iTunes. The enhanced set includes three extra songs--"The Blood," "No More I Love Yous," and "This Low"--along with music videos for "Falling Slowly," "Sad Songs," and "The Side You Never Get To See."
