While juggling release plans for both a new studio album and a long-anticipated live album, alt-rockers Cake [ tickets ] have lined up a few headlining dates for this fall.

The California band will kick off a brief run of shows in Canada, starting with a Sept. 25 appearance in Toronto. The six-city outing will conclude with an Oct. 1 show in Sayreville, NJ. Details are below.

The group, which left Columbia Records following its most recent studio album, 2004's "Pressure Chief," still hasn't confirmed a solid release date for its first live album, the oft-delayed "Live at the Crystal Palace."

Meanwhile, the band released "B-Sides and Rarities" on its own Upbeat Records label last fall. The set features a host of covers, including Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Barry White's "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," alongside Cake originals. A limited-edition version includes a bonus track--a live performance of "War Pigs" with The Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd--and a scratch-and-sniff cover.

Cake also continues to make ground on its sixth studio album, which is due sometime this year, according to a posting on the group's MySpace page.

The band, which formed in Sacramento, CA, in the early '90s, has scored several radio hits over the years, including "Rock and Roll Lifestyle," "The Distance" and "Never There," as well as its latest, "No Phone," off of "Pressure Chief."
