Everclear expands summer trek
Alt-rockers Everclear have added another round of US dates to the tour supporting their latest release, "The Vegas Years."
Since spring, the band has been playing fairs and festivals as well as performing a couple of shows for US troops, including one in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After a short break, Everclear will return to the road Aug. 16 in Des Moines, IA, and visit nearly a dozen cities from the Midwest to the East Coast through early September. A mid-October date with Soul Asylum and Cracker is also booked in Palmerton, PA. An updated itinerary is included below.
Everclear continues to support April's "The Vegas Years," which features 14 covers the band recorded between 1994 and 2007, including The Go-Go's' "Our Lips Are Sealed," Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl," and Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny," all of which are streaming at Everclear's MySpace page.
Frontman Art Alexakis recently told the St. Cloud Times the album is kind of a tongue-in-cheek joke " because a lot of times, when musicians get older, they start becoming caricatures of themselves and playing their songs like they're covers."
Everclear's last set of original material, 2006's "Welcome to the Drama Club," was inspired by Alexakis' struggles as he parted with his longtime bandmates, went through his third divorce and filed for bankruptcy. The album marked the recorded debut of the group's current lineup--Alexakis with bassist Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, drummer Brett Snyder and keyboardist Josh Crawley--and the re-launch of Everclear as an independent band. It cracked The Billboard 200 and spawned the singles "Glorious" and "Hater."
Everclear has released seven studio albums in last 15 years, and logged radio hits including "Santa Monica," "Everything To Everyone," "I Will Buy You A New Life," "Father Of Mine" and "Wonderful."
This winter, the bandmates expect to work on a new record and, by next month, they hope to start releasing singles via their website, according to the St. Cloud Times.
