Iron & Wine add dates to fall trek
Iron & Wine protagonist Sam Beam has added a new leg of full-band dates to his schedule following a run of acoustic solo shows in September.
The South Carolina-based singer/songwriter kicks off the headlining run Oct. 6 in Eugene, OR, following his solo dates opening for Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova's Swell Season project. The 14-city trek runs through late November.
Beam also has a few major festival appearances lined up, including an Aug. 3 slot at Chicago's Lollapalooza, a Sept. 27 turn at Austin, TX's Austin City Limits Festival, and an Oct. 5 appearance at San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. Details are included below.
Beam spent six months recording "The Shepherd's Dog," Iron & Wine's third full-length album, with longtime producer Brian Deck and engineer Colin Studebaker.
Working mainly in his home studio in Texas, the singer expanded his instrumental palette on the new album by including help from his sister, Sarah Beam, along with Patrick McKinney and EJ Holowicki. Calexico's Paul Niehaus and Joey Burns also contributed to the recording, which debuted at No. 24 on The Billboard 200 album chart following its release last September.
Prior to "The Shepherd's Dog," Iron & Wine released a pair of EPs in 2005: "Woman King," released in February, and "In the Reins" in September, the latter of which was a joint effort with Calexico.
