Death Cab for Cutie lines up fall dates
Alt-rockers Death Cab for Cutie have begun to work their late-year schedule into shape, with the band mapping a brief fall trek in support of May's "Narrow Stairs" LP.
The Seattle natives kick off their fall run with their first hometown concert in almost two years, a Sept. 1 appearance at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival. The band's eight-city headlining trek gets underway a month later, starting Oct. 3 in Boston.
Highlights of the outing include an Oct. 8 appearance at New York City's Radio City Music Hall, as well as stops in Atlantic City, NJ (10/5) and St. Louis, MO (10/13). Dates are included below.
The group scored its first No. 1 album this spring with "Narrow Stairs," which sold 144,000 copies in its first week in stores. The set--the band's first studio effort since 2005's Grammy-nominated "Plans"--was produced by Death Cab's guitarist, Chris Walla; a streaming version of the lead single, "I Will Possess Your Heart," can be found at the band's MySpace page.
"For 'Narrow Stairs,' the majority of the songs I brought in were guitar songs--songs we could sit in a room and just play," frontman Ben Gibbard said of the album's more straightforward approach in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "I can honestly say I had more fun and felt more inspired on this record than anything that we had done in a long time."
Videos for "Heart" and the album's forthcoming second single, "Cath...," can be found streaming on the band's website.
