Roskilde Fund To Benefit Crowd Safety Research
LONDON--Organizers of Denmark's Roskilde Festival, where nine people died in a crowd crush during headliner Pearl Jam's set on June 30, have established the Roskilde 2000 Tragedy Fund.
According to a statement on the festival's official site, the fund will be used for "research and development of health and security measures for large gatherings of young people in connection with cultural events, especially musical events."
Roskilde promoters have also called for Oasis and the Pet Shop Boys--both of which bands, fearing for their safety, refused to perform on July 1 on the same stage where the tragedy happened the night before--to donate their fees to the charity.
