Kaki King takes out 'Revenge'

Indie guitarist/singer Kaki King will stay on the road through fall as she continues to support her latest album, "Dreaming of Revenge."

Following a stop at San Francisco's Outside Lands festival next weekend, King will head into September with a handful of solo-acoustic shows on the East Coast and then jet to Europe for a couple of weeks. She'll return to the US in early October with a few full-band performances before launching into "The Last Happy Night of Your Life" tour with fellow indie faves the Mountain Goats. That trek is set to launch Oct. 13 in Chicago and visit clubs and theaters across the country through Nov. 9.

King's full US itinerary is listed below and her overseas dates can be found at her MySpace page.

The performer made a showing on Billboard's Heatseekers chart with her March release, "Dreaming of Revenge," which continues her evolution from acoustic instrumentalist to full-fledged singer/songwriter. The set follows King's 2006 effort, "... Until We Felt Red," which propelled her into indie-rock territory and marked her first record with vocals.

"Even though half the tracks are instrumentals, I feel like I'm writing pop songs," King said of the new album in her bio. "We really concentrated on the melodies. Everything I write tends to be dense and chordal but, this time, the idea was to layer the challenging guitar work under very simple, beautiful melodies. I really wanted them to be memorable."

King moved from her native Atlanta to New York in 1998 and got her start busking in the subway. Her finger-picking, fret-slapping, percussive guitar style got the attention of Velour Music, which released her debut, "Everybody Loves You," in 2003. Relentless touring followed and King has since headlined shows throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia, according to her bio.

She has also stayed busy appearing on albums by Tegan and Sara and the Foo Fighters, as well as contributing to the film soundtracks "Into the Wild" and "August Rush."
