Mary J. Blige assembles 'Love Soul Tour'
Mary J. Blige is putting together the itinerary for her next US tour to support her eighth studio album, "Growing Pains."
"The Love Soul Tour," featuring special guest Robin Thicke and newcomer Dave Young, is currently scheduled to kick off Sept. 13 in North Charleston, SC, and visit cities from coast to coast through mid-October. Confirmed dates are listed below. Fan club bundles and VIP ticket packages are available through Ticketmaster (LiveDaily's parent company).
Blige combed the US last spring on the "Heart of the City Tour" with Jay-Z. The Grammy-winning soul songstress has been touring behind "Growing Pains," which surfaced last December and climbed to No. 1 on The Billboard 200, selling more than 800,000 copies its first two weeks out.
While recording the new album, Blige enlisted help from producers including Tricky Stewart, The Neptunes and Norwegian studio aces Stargate, as well as guest performers Ludacris and Usher. However, she's continued to take more control over the recording and creative process.
"Making records is different than when I started because now I know what I want and there's not 50 people running the show," Blige said in her bio. "Now, [husband/creative partner] Kendu Isaacs and I run the show. Kendu's ear is good, my ear is good, and we're honest with each other."
Blige's latest hit single, "Just Fine," marked her 18th Top 10 single on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart, tying a record set by Mariah Carey.
Another hit, "Work That," is at the center of a lawsuit filed by a New York production company that claims Blige and her crew were never given permission to use the music on the track, according to various reports. Dream Family Entertainment is reportedly suing the singer for $2 million.
In more positive news, Blige has joined a dozen-plus female music stars to record "Just Stand Up," a charity single for the Stand Up to Cancer initiative to raise funds for cancer research. The song, produced by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and Antonio "L.A." Reid, will be released to radio and will be available for purchase at Apple's iTunes store beginning Sept. 2, according to a press release. An all-star television premiere of the tune will take place Sept. 5 when the ABC, CBS and NBC networks simultaneously devote an hour of commercial-free programming to the cause.
