Stone Temple Pilots circle new dates on comeback calendar

Reunited hard rockers Stone Temple Pilots will continue their mammoth comeback tour with a few new dates this fall, the band has revealed.

The group, which is taking a breather after completing a lengthy tour stretch last night in Nashville, TN, will continue the trek's 19 remaining dates Aug. 30 in Vancouver.

Aside from several additional dates in the Southern US in late October, the band will also head down to Mexico for a trio of shows beginning Oct. 18 in Mexico City. Details are included below.

After forming the band in 1992, the grunge-rockers--frontman Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz--recorded five studio albums and went on to sell more than 35 million copies worldwide, according to a press release. They parted ways after completing a tour behind 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da," which is their most recent studio album.

"It's been five years we've been apart, and there's all these young kids who had older brothers who were STP fans, and now they're these little hipsters--18, 19, 20 years old--and they're STP fans," Weiland said at a press conference in April announcing the band's reunion shows, its first tour since breaking up in 2002. "These kids come up to me all the time and tell me they loved the band, that they have all of our records. To be appreciated by a whole 'nother generation of fans, all of a sudden discovering you, it's kind of what I did with the classic bands I love--the ones that influenced me."

Dean DeLeo recently told the Associated Press that STP plans to record a new studio album after the tour wraps.

Weiland and Kretz were sued in June by the band's record label, Atlantic Records, for "trying to end their recording contract early," according to a Reuters news story. According to the lawsuit, the label wants the band--which has already delivered the six studio albums owed under contract--to record a seventh album, and "up to two more albums" if the label decides it wants them.
