Patty Loveless returns to the road for 'Sleepless Nights'

Patty Loveless has a new album of country classics on deck and she'll support the set with her first tour in three years.

The singer is scheduled to visit Nashville's Grand Ole Opry early next month before officially kicking off her US outing Sept. 26 in State College, PA. So far, she's booked more than a dozen shows along the East Coast through early November, though more dates are expected, according to a press release. Confirmed performances are listed below.

"I'm excited to get back out there and see some familiar faces as well as meet some new ones," Loveless said in a statement. "We'll perform classics from the new CD as well as many of my own hits from past albums. Performing live is one of my favorite things and I'm thrilled to get back out there!"

The tour coincides with Loveless' 19th album, "Sleepless Nights," which is due Sept. 9 on the new Saguaro Roads Records label. The set features 14 classics that Loveless and her husband/co-producer Emory Gordy Jr. culled from a list of nearly 500 selections.

Loveless calls the album "a little bit of a history lesson," as it represents the music she listened to growing up in rural eastern Kentucky. Tracks include versions of George Jones' "Color of the Blues," Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart," Webb Pierce's "There Stands the Glass" and the title cut, which was originally done by The Everly Brothers and also recorded as a duet by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

The record features a Who's Who of Nashville session players and background vocals by Vince Gill, according to a press release.

"Sleepless Nights" follows Loveless' 2005 studio set, "Dreamin' My Dreams," which reached No. 29 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

The Grammy-winning country traditionalist followed her dream from Kentucky to the Grand Ole Opry after first catching the ear of Porter Wagoner at age 13, and released her self-titled debut on MCA Records in 1987.
