State Radio plots fall tour as 'Crow' flies

Reggae-infused punk-rockers State Radio will carry a political message on the road with them this fall, when the band mounts up its 'Take Back the Country' tour.

The trio--which joined Rage Against the Machine last night (8/27) at Denver's Tent State Music Festival--will kick off the trek Sept. 13 in Waterville, ME. Joining the group on all 20-plus dates of the tour will be Zimbabwe afro-beat ensemble Bongo Love. Details are below.

The Boston trio, headed by former Dispatch vocalist/guitarist Chad Stokes Urmston and rounded out by bassist Chuck Fay and drummer Mike Najarian, continues to support "Year of the Crow," which hit retail outlets in February.

The record, which follows the band's 2006 debut, "Us Against the Crown," was produced by Tchad Blake (Los Lobos, Tom Waits). The band also released "The Barn Sessions" last year, a package of outtakes and re-workings of material from the debut album.

"The ultimate goal of State Radio is to have people consider what I'm saying as they enjoy the music we create," Urmston said in a statement. "I'm not looking to alienate anyone, but I hope I can enlighten some people."
