Dan Deacon sets up multi-act 'Round Robin' tour

Synth-rock absurdist Dan Deacon will curate an unusual slate of shows this fall featuring many of his hometown friends performing in what he terms a "round robin" format.

The Baltimore-based artist has collected 29 acts, most of them from his hometown and many sharing his Carpark Records label affiliation, and will present them on alternating nights during a seven-city, 14-date tour that kicks off Oct. 2 in Boston.

The shows--two in each city--will alternate between the so-called "Eyes Night" (featuring Beach House, Jana Hunter, Wzt Hearts, Nautical Almanac, Lexie Mountain Boys and others) and "Feet Night" (Deacon himself, along with The Death Set, Videohippos, Adventure, Future Islands and a few others), with acts in a third grouping, "Weird Round" (featuring, among others, Mark Brown, Showbeast and Sports Ghosts), popping up randomly throughout each evening's sets.

According to a press release, the artists involved will travel about using "veggie powered" vehicles, and the "round robin" concept will come into play during each show as the artists set up their equipment "along the perimeter of the room," with the audience in the middle, and play in a circle, one after the other, with no breaks in between.

Deacon, regarded is supporting last year's "Spiderman of the Rings" release. A few tunes from the set are streaming at Deacon's MySpace page.

According to Deacon's record label, Carpark, the performer is currently wrapping up production on "Bromst," the full-length follow-up to "Spiderman." The set is tentatively due early next year.
