Decemberists return from long layoff with fall tour

The Decemberists return to the concert trail after several months of downtime with a fresh run of headlining dates slated for November.

The Portland, OR-based crew last performed as a unit in May at a campaign rally for Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, a show that followed aborted tours in both the US and Europe last fall due to an illness; frontman Colin Meloy, however, launched his own solo trek this spring following the release of his debut solo album, "Colin Meloy Sings Live!"

The forthcoming trek will kick off Nov. 5 in New York City, with a modest slate of 10 cities over the course of November. The outing splits into East and West Coast legs, finishing up in the Pacific Northwest. Details are below.

The Decemberists--who released their most recent studio album, "The Crane Wife," in 2006--are currently preparing a staggered release for a three-volume singles collection titled "Always the Bridesmaid." The first set, subtitled "Volume 1," will be available digitally and on vinyl Oct. 14. The second set is due Nov. 4, with the final volume following on Dec. 2.

The three-volume set can be pre-ordered through the band's website. Fans who pre-order the collection will receive limited, colored-vinyl editions of the albums, according to a press release.

Members of the band have told various interviewers in recent months that the group is working on new material (some of which it performed at the Obama rally in May) for its next studio album, and is aiming to have it in stores sometime next year.
