Matisyahu tours through year's end
Hasidic reggae star Matisyahu is putting a wrap on summer dates and gearing up for another run of North American shows this fall/winter.
Next month, the performer is scheduled to roll out a 38-city tour that stops by clubs and theaters across the US as well as Toronto and Montreal through mid-December. A variety of support acts--including Flobots, Chester French, Heavy Pets, Future Rock and K'naan--will join in on the trek, which kicks off Oct. 18 in Milwaukee, WI. The itinerary is listed below.
On the road, Matisyahu has been previewing a few new songs that will likely end up on his next album. He has spent many months in the studio working on his forthcoming project and recently traveled to Jamaica to record with rhythm masters Sly & Robbie, according to his website.
Matisyahu's latest release is the 2006 EP/DVD combo "No Place To Be," which topped Billboard's reggae album chart. The CD comprises seven tracks, including "Jerusalem (Out of Darkness Comes Light)" and a version of the Police classic "Message In A Bottle." The set's "Live in Israel" DVD features a 2005 performance shot in Tel Aviv as well as interviews and street performances from Jerusalem.
Matisyahu, who is constantly lauded for his energetic live performance, fuses Orthodox Judaism, classic reggae and hip-hop to get across his message of peace and unity. The Grammy-nominated artist considers his music career a revolutionary way to channel his spiritual calling, according to his bio.
Later this month, Ovation TV will make Matisyahu the subject of an episode of "Bonefish Grill's Notes from the Road." The one-hour program, which will include live performances and candid conversations with the artist, is set to premiere Sept. 25 and run through early October.
