Conor Oberst stretches solo run
Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst will stay on the road through fall as he continues to support his first solo album in more than a dozen years.
The singer/songwriter wrapped the first leg of his North American tour last month and is currently in Europe. He'll return to the US later this month for a brief run of dates in the Midwest and South, and then visit Australia before launching another stateside jaunt that stretches from early October to late November. The coast-to-coast fall outing includes two-night stands in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City. US shows are listed below and those overseas can be found at Oberst's website.
The prolific performer assembled The Mystic Valley Band to back him on his self-titled solo project, which surfaced in early August and shot to No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The players--guitarists Taylor Hollingsworth and Nik Freitas, bassist Macey Taylor, keyboardist/trumpeter Nate Walcott and drummer Jason Boesel--are also backing Oberst on the road.
The eponymous set marks Oberst's fourth solo record following 1995's "Soundtrack to My Movie," which he released on cassette as a teenager. The new album, which showcases the performer's brand of Nuevo Americana, is streaming in its entirety at Oberst's website and MySpace page.
The singer's main music vehicle, Bright Eyes, released its sixth studio effort, "Cassadaga," last year. That album's lineup includes Bright Eyes full-timers Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott along with special guest performers including Gillian Welch, Janet Weiss (formerly of Sleater-Kinney) and Ben Kweller.
The new record isn't credited to Bright Eyes because Mogis was busy with other projects when it was recorded in Tepoztlan, Mexico, earlier this year, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
