Locksley plots headlining tour, re-issues album
Indie-rockers Locksley continue to ride a wave of MTV-assisted fame, announcing a fall headline tour in conjunction with the cable network's "Choose or Lose" campaign.
The Brooklyn-based rockers, whose song "Why Not Me" has garnered heavy play on various MTV programs, will kick off the trek Oct. 5 in Boston, with the 18-city outing running through a Nov. 1 date in New York City. Details are below.
The four-piece band, which offers straightforward pop-rock of the British Invasion variety, self-released its second and most recent studio album, "Don't Make Me Wait," early last year. The band--which remains unsigned to a record label--will re-release the disc Sept. 9 with new artwork and a pair of bonus tracks. The group signed a deal with independent distributors Fontana to get the disc into stores.
"It seems if you're unsigned almost anything you do is credible," frontman Jesse Laz told Spin.com recently, explaining that the band has thus far seen little criticism for its alignment with MTV, which named the band its Artist of the Week for the week beginning Sept. 8.
"It's like winning the lottery," Laz said of the attention from MTV. "It's sort of shocking and I don't know what to do with it."
The band--which has opened in the past for OK Go, The Dandy Warhols, Rooney, Hanson and The Hives, among other acts--self-released its debut album, "Safely From the City," in 2004. The group has also issued a pair of EPs, most recently "Garage Sale," which dropped earlier this year.
