Hurricane Ike rains on Houston events

Evacuations have been ordered and businesses, including concert venues, are closed as the Houston area braces for the wrath of Hurricane Ike.

The biggest concert affected so far is the Eagles performance that was scheduled for last night (9/11) at the Toyota Center. That show has been postponed until Oct. 2, and the venue will honor tickets on the rescheduled date.

Other postponements include tomorrow's (9/13) Steve Tyrell show at The Grand Opera House in Galveston and Sunday's Eagles of Death Metal gig at Meridian.

A number of cancellations have also been announced, including weekend performances by Bob Schneider and Graham Colton at Warehouse Live.

It's safe to say that most, if not all, concert venues will be closed at least through the weekend and music fans should stand by for further announcements.

Forecasters have predicted that Hurricane Ike will make landfall between the central Texas coast and southwestern Louisiana by tomorrow morning (9/13), according to The New York Times. Ike is expected to gain strength overnight and come ashore as a Category 3 storm with winds above 111 mph.

Authorities have ordered hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate low-lying areas, and residents living in one- and two-story structures on the coast outside of the seawall have been warned they are sure to "face certain death" if they fail to obey the orders, according to the Houston Chronicle.
