Sisters of Mercy assemble fall tour schedule

British rockers The Sisters of Mercy will apparently mount a significant fall North American tour, with dates for the trek continuing to pop up on various ticketing sites.

Although the veteran goth-rock outfit still hasn't made any official announcements regarding the outing, tickets are now available (or on-sale dates announced) for a full run of shows, with the presumptive tour kicking off Oct. 27 in Buffalo, NY, and the 26-date trek winding down in early December.

Highlights of the run include shows in Boston (11/1), New York City (11/3), Chicago (11/17), San Francisco (11/26) and Los Angeles (12/2). The tour also features a trio of Canadian appearances, with dates in Toronto (10/28), Montreal (10/29) and Vancouver (11/24). Details are included below.

The Sisters of Mercy were formed in Leeds, England in 1980 and went on to become one of the most successful goth-themed acts of that decade. The band released three albums, the last, "Vision Thing," coming in 1990. The group--now down to one remaining original member in co-founder and lead singer Andrew Eldritch--continued to play live shows for most of the '90s and this decade, even without benefit of new recorded material.

Eldritch has, in recent years, discussed with several interviewers the possibility of the band releasing new material, but the performer doesn't seem to be in any hurry about it, and insists on the group's website that the band doesn't release more albums "because we don't have to. We are not like most bands, who are slaves to their accountants, their record company, their agents or the media, all of whom like to dictate the rhythms of a band's career--for their own purposes."

The current lineup of The Sisters consists of Eldritch, Chris May (guitar/vocals), Ben Christo (guitar/vocals) and a drum machine named "Doktor Avalanche." This was the same name given to the drum machine that accompanied Eldritch and the band's other co-founder Gary Marx in the early years of the group.
