Smashing Pumpkins reveal new fall dates
Fresh off a run of successful warm-up shows last month, The Smashing Pumpkins have announced new dates for the band's upcoming fall tour.
The group--which was recently tapped as part of the Oct. 26 lineup for Neil and Pegi Young's Bridge School Benefit concert in Mountain View, CA--will launch the trek Nov. 1 in Cleveland.
A highlight of the outing will come in the band's hometown of Chicago, where the Pumpkins will play two nights apiece at a pair of theaters: Nov. 18-19 at the Chicago Theatre and Nov. 21-22 at the Auditorium Theatre. The full schedule is included below; for ticketing information, including pre-sale dates, consult the band's official website.
The Pumpkins plan to release a double-DVD live set, "If All Goes Wrong," on Nov. 11. The package contains both a 105-minute documentary and a full concert culled from footage filmed over 11 sold-out nights during the band's summer 2007 residency at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, according to a press release.
"We went into the residencies hopeful to play some new music, with the idea I would write during the day and we could maybe even play new songs that same night," bandleader Billy Corgan said in a statement. "What I didn't anticipate is how much the process would inspire me, positively and negatively, to report what I was seeing and feeling from the shows. The documentary shows that process in an interesting way that reveals the link between the band and our audience."
The concert portion of the set, entitled "The Fillmore Residency," includes seven new songs, alternate versions of fan favorites and a selection of Pumpkins rarities.
The band, which released a four-song EP, "American Gothic," early this year, plans to release the new single "G.L.O.W." in late October. The single will be issued as a physical release in Europe, but only as a digital download in the US, and will first see light as a downloadable track for the upcoming "Guitar Hero World Tour" video game.
