Tom Morello rocks harder in 'The Fabled City'

Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist/co-founder Tom Morello has assembled his first round of live performances to support his new solo album, "The Fabled City."

The Grammy-winning performer, who is now using his birth name alongside The Nightwatchman moniker, is set to play nearly a dozen November shows from San Francisco to New York City, and more dates are on the way, according to a press release. In addition, Morello will appear at NYC's New Yorker Festival Oct. 4. Confirmed concerts are listed below.

"The Fabled City," due tomorrow (9/30), features appearances by System of a Down's Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings. The set offers up more complex electric arrangements than The Nightwatchman's 2007 debut, "One Man Revolution," and is said to bridge the gap between Morello's guitar-hero persona and his politically charged folk alter ego. The tour will reflect that.

"On 'The Fabled City Tour,' I will be playing both acoustic and electric guitar," Morello said in a statement. "I want to start off with the darker acoustic songs and then build to some of the wildest electric guitar playing I have ever unleashed on stage in my career. The idea is half Dylan/half Hendrix. I have been practicing my ass off and can't wait to rock."

Last spring, Morello, previewed some of his new material on "The Justice Tour," which celebrated the 60th anniversary of The Human Rights Declaration. That two-week outing, which featured performances by Perry Farrell, Slash, Dave Navarro, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Sen-Dog of Cypress Hill and more, dedicated a day to a local charity at each stop as well as a rock concert to benefit that charity.

In between gigs with his rock bands, Morello has performed as The Nightwatchman at coffee houses and political events for about five years. The singer/guitarist graduated from Harvard University with honors as a Political Science major and has been a widely recognized political activist throughout his career. In 2006, he was the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.

Along with Tankian, Morello is also a co-founder of the non-profit Axis of Justice, which aims to bring together musicians, fans and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.
