Madonna gears up for North American tour launch
With the European leg of her "Sticky & Sweet" world tour now fading in her rearview mirror, Madonna has her sights set on a North American jaunt that launches this weekend.
"Now that I've warmed up in Europe, I'm ready to come home and do the show for my US fans," the veteran pop queen said in a prepared statement.
The run kicks off Saturday (10/4) in East Rutherford, NJ, followed by a four shows scattered across next week at New York City's Madison Square Garden. Subsequent dates throughout the US, Canada and Mexico are lined up through the end of November. Details are included below.
As always, fans can expect Madonna's live show to be quite a spectacle. According to tour promoter LiveNation, the production features "3,500 wardrobe elements, 36 clothing designers, 100 pairs of kneepads, 12 trampolines, 69 guitars, a traveling personnel of 250, five keyboards for Kevin Antunes the musical director, three members of the Russian Romani (Gypsy) group the Kolpakov Trio, 18 dancers, one set of Swavorski crystal encrusted ear phones and one Material Girl."
Fans looking to get a taste of the live show can check out the politically charged video for a musical interlude dubbed "Get Stupid," which is shown on video screens as part of Madonna's concert performance. The clip is posted at her website.
Madonna is supporting her 11th studio album, "Hard Candy," which surfaced in April and debuted at No. 1 in more than 30 countries, including the US. Her latest single, "Give It 2 Me," has become her 39th No. 1 club hit, according to her website.
Madonna's previous album, 2005's "Confessions on a Dance Floor," sold more than 8.5 million copies and her 2006 outing to support the set became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time by a female artist, according to a press release. She's hoping to break her own record with the "Sticky & Sweet" tour.
