Guns N' Roses deliver 'Chinese Democracy' next month
In what some might consider a sure sign of the apocalypse, Guns N' Roses have officially announced a release date for their oft-delayed "Chinese Democracy," an album more than 10 years in the making.
Starting Nov. 23, the almost-mythical set will be available exclusively via retail giant Best Buy, according to a press release.
"The release of 'Chinese Democracy' marks a historic moment in rock n' roll," GN'R's high-powered co-managers, Irving Azoff and Andy Gould, said in a prepared statement. "We're launching with a monumental campaign developed by Gary Arnold and the Best Buy team that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. Guns N' Roses fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning."
Produced by frontman Axl Rose--the only remaining original GN'R member--and Caram Costanzo, the album features 14 tracks, including the cut "Shackler's Revenge," which debuted last month as part of the "Rock Band 2" videogame, and "If the World," which can be heard in the recently released film "Body of Lies."
Meanwhile, the album's title track has hit the Internet; a streaming version of the song is embedded below.
"Chinese Democracy" is the first album of new material from Guns N' Roses since 1991's "Use Your Illusion." Twice in the past six years, Axl and a reconstituted GN'R lineup have hit the road for outings dubbed the "Chinese Democracy" tour, and the album's release has appeared to be imminent on several occasions, but has consistently been delayed.
Today's official announcement marks the first time that the group has tied the album's release to a specific date.
