Gregg Allman plots return to solo path
His medical woes behind him for now, Gregg Allman will head out on the road in late December for his long-delayed first solo dates of the year.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who recently finished up a pair of tour runs with The Allman Brothers Band , will kick off his solo schedule Dec. 27 in Westbury, NY. The 10-city outing will spill over into next year, with highlights including a two-night (Jan. 2-3) stretch in New York City. Details are below.
Allman was forced to cancel shows with The Allman Brothers Band earlier this year due to the debilitating effects of the 24-week interferon treatment he received to combat Hepatitis C.
"I feel great," said Allman, who has been pronounced free of the disease by his doctors, in a press statement. "We did about 20 shows this summer and we were really hitting it." The singer will be backed on the tour by a band featuring Bruce Katz (keyboard), Jerry Jemmott (bass), Steve Potts (drums), Mark McGee (guitar), Jay Collins (sax) and Floyd Miles (percussion).
The singer/songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as part of The Allman Brothers Band and received a lifetime achievement award from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame last year.
