Josiah Leming shows off debut album
Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Josiah Leming has finished his debut album for Warner Bros. Records and is previewing the set next month with a handful of North American dates.
The season-seven "American Idol" contestant is scheduled to hit the road beginning Nov. 12 in Vancouver and then cross over to the US for nine gigs stretching from Seattle to Memphis. The full itinerary is listed below.
The "low-key shows" will give fans a taste of what they can expect from the album, which is due early next year, according to Warner Bros. Those who can't make it to the concerts can preview the album by purchasing a five-song sampler, "Angles Undercover: Selections from Josiah Leming's Album Debut," which is due tomorrow (10/28). The EP will be sold through digital retailers, Leming's MySpace page and at his upcoming shows. Three of the songs are currently streaming at his MySpace page.
The 19-year-old, Tennessee-born performer, who wrote all the songs on the album, spent several weeks in London over the summer, recording with producer/musician David Kosten (Bat for Lashed, Faultline), according to a press release.
Leming's appearance on "American Idol" earlier this year struck a chord with viewers, who turned up in droves on his MySpace page, sending messages of support and listening to his original music. It also got brought the signer to the attention of an artist manager, who brought him to Warner Bros.
Leming left his home of Morristown, TN, at age 17 to make it as a musician, leaving behind eight siblings (six of whom are adopted), an out-of-work stepfather and a mother with terminal cancer. As he traveled around the Southeast playing open-mic nights, he slept in his car and took odd jobs to pay for food and gas.
"No matter what I have gone through, I have the same feelings every kid has," Leming said in a statement. "And I think I can put those feelings in such a way that they connect with people and help them get through their hard times. If my music can give others something they can express their emotions through, that's the whole point."
