Shawn Colvin charts course into next year
Singer/songwriter Shawn Colvin has extended her in-progress US tour into mid-December and started making plans for 2009.
The club/theater trek resumes Nov. 6 in Camden, ME, and hits nearly a dozen cities along the East Coast and in the Midwest through Dec. 14, when the outing is set to wrap in Chicago. Details are listed below.
Colvin will cruise into next year on the seven-day Cayamo concert at sea, which departs from Miami Feb. 28 and makes stops in Samana, St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. Dubbed the "Journey Through Song" cruise, the voyage will feature a host of singer/songwriters including Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller.
Colvin continues to support her Nonesuch Records debut, "These Four Walls," which broke into The Billboard 200 upon its fall 2006 release. The set, the Grammy-winning singer's first new effort since 2001's "Whole New You," includes guest spots by Griffin, Marc Cohn, Teddy Thompson and pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz.
Colvin followed "These Four Walls" with a cover version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," which is streaming at her MySpace page. The single was recorded during her 2006 fall tour.
The performer can also be heard singing "Secret Gardens" on the new release "Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins." Plus, Colvin's nearly two-decade career will be laid out for fans in her memoir, "A Few Small Repairs," tentatively scheduled for a fall '09 release.
Although Colvin was rewarded with a Best Contemporary Folk Grammy for her 1989 debut disc, "Steady On," she didn't reach a broad mainstream audience until eight years later, when her single "Sunny Came Home" became an unlikely Top 10 pop hit. The song, off the album "A Few Small Repairs," hit the charts 15 months after the record was released and it earned the new-folk singer two more gold statues.
