Johnny Mathis books shows well into 2009
Johnny Mathis has stretched his leisurely run of North American dates through next spring.
The legendary crooner's 52nd anniversary concert schedule has seen him play two to four concerts per month since the summer. He'll resume the outing Nov. 6 in Cleveland and perform in New York, California, Texas, Florida, New Jersey and Ontario through early April. The itinerary, listed below, includes two-night stands in Windsor, Ontario; Santa Rosa, CA; Palm Desert, CA; and Atlantic City, NJ.
Mathis is supporting his April release, "A Night to Remember," which comprises a host of classic hits including "Walk On By," "Just The Two Of Us" and "The Closer I Get To You." The record features guest stars including Kenny G, Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams, Dave Koz and Mone't. A couple of tracks from the set--"Always" with Mone't and "We're in this Love Together" with Dave Koz--are streaming at Mathis' website.
"A Night to Remember" follows a set of 50th anniversary albums and a DVD that Mathis released in 2006.
The 72-year-old singer broke through in 1957 with his debut album, "Wonderful Wonderful," which spawned the No. 1 hit "Chances Are." A year later, he released a greatest-hits set that spent almost 10 years on the album chart and made it into the "Guinness Book of World Records," according to his bio.
Mathis has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame twice: in 1998 for "Chances Are" and in 2002 for "Misty." The Grammy organization also honored him with a Lifetime Achievement award in 2003.
