Duncan Sheik previews 'Whisper' on fall tour

Singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik continues evolution into the world of musical theater as he brings songs from his recent work for the stage to audiences this fall.

The Tony-winning singer kicked off the outing Oct. 17 in Philadelphia, and continues the tour Nov. 1 in West Palm Beach, FL. He'll eventually hit 14 cities on the trek, which also features Lauren Pritchard, a member of the original cast of the Sheik-penned musical "Spring Awakening." Details are included below.

Sheik's next musical project, "Whisper House," will emerge as a CD in January and a musical theater production in April with the Delaware Theater Company. "It's kind of a ghost story set in World War II," the singer recently told LoHud.com.

Last year, Sheik won a pair of Tony Awards--Best Orchestration and Best Original Score (Music)--for his work with playwright Steven Sater on the musical "Spring Awakening," which opened on Broadway to critical acclaim late in 2006. The original-cast recording for the show won a Grammy earlier this year in the Best Musical Show Album category.

Sheik's fifth and most recent traditional-form studio album, 2006's "White Limousine," was packaged with a DVD-ROM that included software enabling listeners to remix tracks from the album.

Rhino Records released a two-disc overview of Sheik's earlier work, "Brighter/Later: A Duncan Sheik Anthology," in 2006. A repackaged single-disc version of the compilation, "Greatest Hits: A Duncan Sheik Collection," hit stores last year.
