Jackson Browne takes on hurricane relief
Jackson Browne is just about to wrap the US portion of his world tour, but he's added one more stop to benefit hurricane relief efforts in Cuba, Haiti and the Texas Gulf Coast.
The Nov. 29 Jackson Browne & Friends concert will take place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Southern California. The "friends" joining the veteran singer/songwriter at the charity event will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release. Pre-sale tickets are currently available and reserved seats go on sale to the general public beginning Saturday (11/1) at Browne's website.
Browne has been playing US theaters from coast-to-coast since mid-September, and he'll finish the stateside jaunt with early November gigs in Denver and Phoenix. He will then head to Japan for a few shows before returning for the hurricane relief event. Tours of Australia and Europe have been lined up for next year. US dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at Browne's website.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is supporting his new studio album, "Time The Conqueror," which reached No. 20 on the US album chart earlier this month. The 10-song set was recorded with Browne's longtime band--Kevin McCormick (bass), Mark Goldenberg (guitars), Mauricio "Fritz" Lewak (drums) and Jeff Young (keyboards)--along with additional vocalists Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills.
The record, released on Browne's own Inside Recordings, marks his first studio effort since 2002's "The Naked Ride Home." It follows two live releases that capture solo acoustic outings: the Grammy-nominated "Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1" (2005) and this year's "Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2."
In related news, Browne recently sued presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain and the Republican National Committee for using his song "Running on Empty" in a television commercial. The claim alleges copyright infringement and accuses McCain and the RNC of violating the Lanham Act by falsely suggesting that the singer/songwriter endorses the McCain candidacy.
"In light of Jackson Browne's lifelong commitment to Democratic ideals and political candidates, the misappropriation of Jackson Browne's endorsement is entirely reprehensible, and I have no doubt that a jury will agree," attorney Lawrence Iser said in statement.
