Steve Winwood maps early 2009 outing

Steve Winwood has lined up a slate of early 2009 concert dates as he continues to support his latest studio set, this year's "Nine Lives."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who is currently gearing up for a brief European trek, kicks off the US outing Jan. 15-16 in New York. The East Coast tour includes visits to seven cities; dates are below. Winwood's overseas schedule is posted at his website.

"Nine Lives," Winwood's first studio album since 2003's "About Time," comprises nine tracks, including the first single, "Dirty City," which features a guest appearance from Clapton.

Winwood, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic, has given increasing space on his tour calendar in recent years to outdoor music festivals.

"I think the decline of the record industry, in many ways, is quite good for the health of music," Winwood said during an August teleconference with participants of this summer's Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco. "Because I think it gives people other routes and other avenues to get their music across, such as festivals and live music, and I think that there is something exciting about seeing bands live."
