Classic rockers Styx [ tickets ] have assembled a handful of concerts to wrap the year, and they've started to fill in their 2009 calendar.

The band is scheduled to play three Florida dates next week before celebrating the new year with a Dec. 31 performance in Tempe, AZ, and will resume touring in late January with a half-dozen US shows stretching from Illinois to California. The current itinerary also includes an April date in French Lick, IN, and an October gig in Biloxi, MS. Details are listed below.

Styx spent the spring touring with Def Leppard and REO Speedwagon, and joined Boston for a mid-summer run. The group wrapped the latest leg of its trek last month with its first shows in Hawaii in 30 years.

In August, Styx performed for the first time as a four-piece when guitarist James "J.Y." Young had to leave the tour to be with his wife, Susie, who suffered from an aneurysm.

"It was only at JY's insistence that Tommy [Shaw], Lawrence [Gowan], Todd [Sucherman] and Ricky [Phillips] performed at all," the band said in a statement, adding, "There will be more performances in the near future that feature Styx as a four-piece. JY will perform whenever possible, but his presence at Susie's side is simply a priority for the time-being."

Styx's latest release is 2006's "One With Everything," a live CD/DVD set that captures the band performing its hit songs with The Contemporary Youth Orchestra of Cleveland. The rockers' most recent collection of original studio material is 2003's "Cyclorama," and they also released 2005's "Big Bang Theory," which covers classic rock songs originally performed by artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

During a career that spans four decades, Styx has garnered six platinum or multi-platinum albums and sold 17.5 million records in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
