Death Cab for Cutie takes 'Stairs' to holiday shows
Death Cab for Cutie will get in the Christmas spirit next month with a brief slate of holiday-themed, radio station-promoted concerts around the country.
The group will appear at five such shows, kicking off Dec. 2 in Milwaukee, WI. Various other acts will fill the bill at each stop, with The Killers, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party and Jack's Mannequin making appearances on the road trip, which also hits Baton Rouge, LA (12/4); Grand Prairie, TX (12/5); Seattle (12/9) and Oakland, CA (12/11). Details are included below.
The group continues to support its May release, "Narrow Stairs," which sold 144,000 copies during its first week in stores and garnered the band its first No. 1 album. The set--the band's first studio effort since 2005's Grammy-nominated "Plans"--was produced by Death Cab's guitarist, Chris Walla; a streaming version of the lead single, "I Will Possess Your Heart," can be found at the band's MySpace page.
"It's really weird," Walla told a Billboard interviewer earlier this year. "It's really, really good, I think, but it's totally a curve ball, and I think it's gonna be a really polarizing record. But I'm really excited about it. It's really got some teeth. The landscape of the thing is way, way more lunar than the urban meadow sort of thing that has been happening for the last couple of records."
Videos for "Heart" and the album's second single, "Cath...," can be found streaming at the band's website.
