Beasties' Mike D Injures Shoulder, Beasties-Rage Tour Postponed
Beastie Boys ' Mike Diamond (a.k.a. Mike D) severely injured his shoulder on Saturday (7/22) , forcing the Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine to postpone their forthcoming Rhyme & Reason 2000 tour, according to a statement issued by the Beastie Boys' publicist late Tuesday night (7/25). The co-headlining tour was scheduled to kick off in Toronto on Aug. 2.
Diamond was riding a bicycle to his New York City home after attending a rehearsal for the upcoming tour when he damaged his clavicle as well as several muscles, tendons and ligaments in his shoulder, according to the statement. The statement goes on to say that “a specialist has recommended that [Diamond] refrain from all physical activity for the duration of a two to three-month rehabilitation regimen or risk permanently losing the use of the injured shoulder.”
A separate statement posted on the Beastie Boys’ official website said that Diamond “had a run-in with a pothole, and ended up dislocating his shoulder. After many trips to many doctors, it's been decided that Mike will need minor surgery to repair the damaged bits. Mike's going to be ok, but after the third opinion came back that 45 days of touring could cause permanent damage to his shoulder, everyone agreed the tour would have to be postponed."
An announcement addressing rescheduled dates, refund and exchange information for the Rhyme & Reason 2000 tour is expected later this week after Diamond's surgery, according to the statement.
