Bryan Adams books solo-acoustic shows for 2009

Bryan Adams , who last month rolled out plans for a late-year, solo-acoustic tour of the West Coast, has now extended the run into early 2009.

The new dates will see Adams hit the road in early January to tackle roughly a dozen shows scattered throughout the South. Those engagements will follow the veteran Canadian rocker's nine-date run through the West, which gets underway at the end of this month. Details are included below.

The outing is part of Adams' support for his latest album, "11," an acoustic-based collection that surfaced in May and shot to No. 1 in Canada. The set--so titled because it is Adams' 11th album of original music and features 11 songs--was recorded in hotel rooms and backstage areas of concert venues across Europe over the past two years. A deluxe edition of the set featuring bonus tracks and an exclusive performance DVD has been landing in stores outside of the US this month. No plans for a US release have been announced.

Adams has been playing solo-acoustic shows across the US since spring to showcase material from "11" and put a new spin on some of his classics.

"I think for a lot of people that haven't heard me do [an acoustic show] before, it will be intriguing because to play a song like 'Cuts Like a Knife' on acoustic guitar is quite a different thing than hearing it with a full band," Adams explained during a press teleconference earlier this year. "I believe that that will give some insight into the songwriting and it shows that some of the new songs blend in. It's like one solid body of work."

Adams' previous studio album, "Room Service," was released in the US in 2005 and marked his first set of new music in almost seven years, with the exception of the 2002 Grammy-winning film soundtrack for "Spirit," which the singer/songwriter composed and performed in English and French.

Earlier this month, Adams performed at a charity auction in England. Dubbed The Prince's Trust Invest in Futures Gala Dinner and Charity Auction, the event raised about $1.5 million for The Prince's Trust, an organization that helps young people find work.
