'N Sync and Eminem Videos Score Six MTV Video Music Awards Nominations

MTV on Tuesday (7/25) announced the nominees for all of the categories in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. ‘N Sync and self-proclaimed boy-band nemesis Eminem have each garnered nominations in six categories.

'N Sync's “Bye, Bye, Bye” and Eminem's “The Real Slim Shady” have garnered the most nominations of any of this year’s videos, and are pitted against each other in both the Viewer’s Choice and Video of the Year categories.

Nominees for Video of the Year--the award ceremony’s top honor--also include Blink-182’s “All the Small Things,” D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication.”

Meanwhile, facing off against ‘N Sync and Eminem in the Viewer’s Choice category are Christina Aguilera’s “What a Girl Wants," Britney Spears ’ “Oops! … I Did It Again” and Sisqo’s “Thong Song.”

In addition to “Bye, Bye, Bye” and “The Real Slim Shady,” videos clocking in with multiple nominations this year are Metallica ’s “I Disappear,” Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication” and Sisqo’s “Thong Song” with five nods apiece; Christina Aguilera’s “What a Girl Wants” and Britney Spears’ “Oops! … I Did It Again” with four nominations; and videos from Björk, Toni Braxton, Filter, Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and R.E.M. with two nominations each.

Sean and Marlon Wayans will host this year’s awards ceremony, according to MTV. The ceremony is scheduled to air on Sept. 7.
