Bruce Springsteen sets release date for 'Dream' album
Bruce Springsteen fans will have something extra to celebrate in the new year, as The Boss has planned a Jan. 27 drop date for his next album, "Working on a Dream."
The forthcoming set, recorded with the E Street Band, features 12 new Springsteen compositions plus two bonus tracks. It marks Springsteen's 24th album and fourth collaboration with Brendan O'Brien, who produced and mixed the record. "Working on a Dream" follows last year's "Magic," which reached platinum status and scored two Grammy Awards.
"Towards the end of recording 'Magic,' excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing," Springsteen explained in a statement. "When my friend producer Brendan O'Brien heard the new songs, he said, 'Let's keep going.' Over the course of the next year, that's just what we did, recording with the E Street Band during the breaks on last year's tour.
"I hope 'Working on a Dream' has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we've ever done," he added. "All the songs were written quickly, we usually used one of our first few takes, and we all had a blast making this one from beginning to end."
Springsteen previewed an acoustic version of the album's title track last month during a rally for President-Elect Barack Obama in Columbus, OH. A portion of the song was also played yesterday (11/16) on NBC-TV's "Sunday Night Football." Springsteen and the E Street Band will provide a live showcase during the halftime show of the Feb. 1 Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, FL.
The veteran rocker and his band made a triumphant return to the road last year to support "Magic." They wrapped the epic outing Aug. 30 after performing 100 shows for more than 2 million fans, according to Springsteen's website.
