Labelle looks 'Back' to the future with reunion dates
Reunited R&B trio Labelle will launch their first national tour since 1977 next month in support of their recent comeback album, "Back to Now."
The veteran soul songstresses--Patti LaBelle , Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash--kick off the comeback slate Dec. 19 in New York City's Apollo Theater. More dates follow in January and February, with highlights including stops in Chicago (1/10), Oakland (1/30) and Atlanta (2/14). Dates are below.
Released late last month, "Back to Now" debuted at No. 45 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 9 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop album chart.
The first single from the set, "Roll Out," features Wyclef Jean, who also produced the song. The album, the trio's seventh overall and first new release since 1976's "Chameleon," also features studio assistance from Lenny Kravitz and the legendary soul production team Gamble & Huff.
The group originally split following the release of "Chameleon," but has reunited several times over the years, including a well-publicized 1991 Apollo Theater concert and a televised 2005 tribute to Patti LaBelle's 45th anniversary in show business. The trio also reunited in 2006 to record "Dear Rosa" in tribute to the late civil rights champion Rosa Parks.
Of the group's three members, Patti LaBelle has found the most consistent success as a solo artist. Her latest studio release is last year's "Miss Patti's Christmas," a holiday-themed set that mixes soulful renditions of Christmas classics with several original tunes.
