Don Felder flies solo
Former Eagles member Don Felder will bring "An Evening at The Hotel California" to a handful of North American cities next year.
The singer/guitarist currently has a few scattered dates on the books, starting with a two-night stand in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in late February. He's scheduled to visit Calgary, Alberta, in March and then head to California in April for gigs in San Diego and Coachella. Details are listed below.
Felder, who co-wrote the Eagles' signature hit, "Hotel California," has been in the news recently more for his literary talents than his music. In April, he released his memoir, "Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles (1941-2001)," which landed on the New York Times Best Sellers list. The book offers an insider's look into the band and its legendary drama, but it's not the tell-all Felder had intended.
Most of his own story, shaped into prose by British journalist Wendy Holden, was cut at the behest of his publisher, who was only interested in getting dirt on the Eagles, Felder told the Toronto Star in a recent interview. Most of the band gossip got the ax, as well, since Eagles stars Don Henley and Glenn Frey reportedly held up the memoir in a legal tangle that lasted for six years--until Felder agreed to massive edits.
"I didn't want another six years of litigation," Felder told the Star. "Am I happy with how it turned out? No ... the edits altered the intensity of the story. Lots of the salacious details and first-hand perceptions of the dynamics of the band, as well as stuff about how the songs were written, are gone. The legal massage took out the sting."
Felder was the lead guitarist of the Eagles from 1974 until their breakup in 1980, and then from the band's 1994 reunion to his 2001 firing.
