Slipknot plots return to road in 2009

Masked metal-heads Slipknot have mapped their first US tour dates since the August release of the band's latest studio album, "All Hope is Gone."

The group, which continues its return to the tour circuit following a four-year hiatus, kicks off the outing Jan. 23 in St. Paul, MN. The tour will hit more than 30 cities through the middle of March, with opening support from fellow metal outfit Coheed & Cambria . Dates are below.

Tickets go on sale to the public Dec. 6 for a majority of the shows, and the band will host an online presale event a few days earlier. Full details on presales, ticket availability and ticket pricing can be found at the tour's website.

"2009 is the 10 year anniversary of the world's first taste of this band," lead singer Corey Taylor said in a statement, referring to the band's self-titled 1999 debut album. "To celebrate we are coming back out with a killer tour, a couple great bands and the same ferocity with which we attack life."

"All Hope is Gone," Slipknot's fourth studio album and first full-length release since 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)," emerged in August to become the band's first No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 chart. A special edition of the set was released simultaneously, including three bonus tracks and a DVD containing a 35-minute "making of" documentary directed by percussionist Shawn Crahan.

The group had been on hiatus in recent years as members concentrated on various side projects, including lead singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root's participation in alt-metal act Stone Sour, and drummer Joey Jordison's stints with Korn and Ministry.
