Nickelback saddles 'Dark Horse' for 2009 run
Multiplatinum-selling rockers Nickelback have assembled dates for a 2009 North American tour to support their new album, "Dark Horse."
The trek, Nickelback's first under its all-encompassing deal with entertainment giant Live Nation, is set to kick off Feb. 25 in Nashville. So far, 30 gigs are booked, taking the band across the eastern half of the US and into several Canadian provinces through late April. Seether and Saving Abel will support the arena tour, which is detailed below.
Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Dec. 5, and Nickelback fan-club members will have early access starting this Friday (11/28). Citi credit card holders can also score presale tickets beginning Dec. 1.
"Dark Horse," Nickelback's sixth studio album, hit the streets last week and debuted this week at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous release, 2005's "All the Right Reasons," topped the US album chart, spent 112 consecutive weeks in the Top 30 and has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide, according to Nickelback's bio.
The new record marks the first time the Canadian rockers have worked with an outside producer since 2001's "Silver Side Up." They recruited legendary studio wiz Mutt Lange, who has helped score hits for Def Leppard, AC/DC and Foreigner, among others.
The album's lead single, "Gotta Be Somebody," has been making waves across a number of radio formats, including pop, modern rock, mainstream rock and adult. The song is streaming at Nickelback's MySpace page.
