Fountains of Wayne preview new songs on acoustic jaunt

Pop-rockers Fountains of Wayne are set to greet 2009 with a US acoustic tour that will include material from their in-progress album.

The band is scheduled to kick things off in mid-January with a handful of West Coast dates, including two-night stands in San Francisco and Los Angeles. After that, the group will jump over to the East Coast in mid-February for club gigs that include a double shot in its home of New York. Details are listed below.

Singer/songwriter/bassist Adam Schlesinger recently told Billboard that FoW hopes to have its next album ready in 2009.

"We still have a ways to go, but we have eight songs that are relatively close to complete now," he explained. "We're looking to regroup after the New Year and do the second batch."

Meanwhile, Fountains of Wayne continues to support last year's "Traffic and Weather," which marked its first new studio effort in four years. That set followed the band's 2003 breakthrough, "Welcome Interstate Managers," which spawned the modern-rock hit "Stacy's Mom" and earned FoW a Best New Artist Grammy nomination.

The bandmates--Schlesinger, vocalist/guitarist Chris Collingwood, drummer Brian Young and guitarist Jody Porter--have also been staying busy with other projects, according to a blog posting at their MySpace page. Schlesinger and "The Daily Show" executive producer David Javerbaum wrote a batch of original holiday-themed songs for "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All," which is currently airing on the Comedy Central network. The two also collaborated on the Broadway musical "Cry-Baby," which received four Tony nominations.

Porter performs on Juliana Hatfield's latest album, "How To Walk Away," and his solo debut is currently available via iTunes.
