The Walkmen to begin 2009 on West Coast
Alt-rockers The Walkmen have lined up a winter West Coast headlining tour as they continue to support their recent studio release, "You & Me."
The New Yorkers will launch the short outing Jan. 19 in Solana Beach, CA, finishing up less than a week later with a Jan. 24 show in Seattle, WA. Details of the five-city trek are included below.
The band worked with engineer Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav, Asobi Seksu) in New York City and engineer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth) in Oxford, MS, on "You & Me," the fifth studio set from The Walkmen and the first since a pair of 2006 albums. The new set, which popped up in August, debuted at No. 29 on Billboard's Top Digital Albums chart.
The group's first release in 2006--the full-length, original set "A Hundred Miles Off"-- was followed by "Pussy Cats," a track-by-track re-creation of Harry Nilsson's 1974, John Lennon-produced album of the same name. The band invited a slew of friends to join in on the recording of the latter collection and documented the sessions in a 20-minute film that's included with the CD.
"In the New Year," the first single from "You & Me," is streaming at the band's website.
