The 77-year-old singer, who continues to headline around 100 shows annually, is set to kick off 2009 with a Jan. 16 performance in Reno, NV. He currently has 17 dates booked across the US through late March, including two-night stands in Las Vegas; Tunica, MS; and Hankinson, ND. Details are listed below.
Last weekend, Jones rubbed elbows with the President and Mrs. Bush, and a slew of celebrities in Washington, DC, as he received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor. Upon hearing that he would be one of the honorees, Jones said he was completely overwhelmed.
"Since I was a young man, I have just done what I love and that is sing country music, and I never dreamed that something this special would happen to me," the legendary performer said in a statement. "I am completely humbled and will be proud to accept the award!"
In addition to touring and collecting honors, The Possum has been busy promoting his new album, "George Jones - Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets," which surfaced in August. The tracks on the set range from a mid-'70s recording with Jones' late ex-wife, Tammy Wynette, to a 2007 recording with the couple's daughter, Georgette.
Other duet partners on the record include Keith Richards, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Mark Knopfler, Marty Stuart, Leon Russell, Mark Chesnutt, Shelby Lynne, and Tavern Choir with Jim Lauderdale.
Jones has sustained a music career for more than 50 years and is constantly referred to as the greatest country singer of all time. The two-time Grammy winner has upwards of 1,000 songs under his belt and has charted 166 singles--more than any other artist in any music format, according to his bio.
