Ani DiFranco makes 2009 a 'Red Letter Year'

Ani DiFranco has plans to travel across the globe in 2009 to support her latest album, "Red Letter Year."

The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist is set to kick things off in late January with a run through Australia, and then return to touring the US in early March. She's scheduled to roll out her next round of stateside dates March 3 in Wilmington, DE, and stop by cities in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Georgia through the end of the month. Also on the books is an April 17 performance in Portland, ME.

Confirmed US dates are included below and more are being added all the time, according to DiFranco's MySpace page. Her overseas gigs can be found at her website.

Joining the self-described "Little Folksinger" on the road are upright bassist Todd Sickafoose, drummer Allison Miller and percussionist/vibraphonist Mike Dillon--the same crew featured on "Red Letter Year."

The set, DiFranco's 20th studio album on her own Righteous Babe Records label, surfaced last September and reached No. 55 on The Billboard 200. Two years in the making, the album marks the singer's first release since relocating from Buffalo, NY, to New Orleans and becoming a mom.

"I think I sorely needed to be slowed down, and finally a little person came along powerful enough to do it," DiFranco said in a statement. "When I listen to my new record, I hear a very relaxed me, which I think has been absent in a lot of my recorded canon."

A couple of tracks from the 12-song set are streaming at the performer's MySpace page.

Last April, DiFranco put out the "Live at Babeville" DVD, which captures her inaugural sold-out shows at her own Buffalo venue. Those performances were recently aired on PBS-TV stations across the country.
