Little Big Town graduates to headliner

Grammy-nominated country quartet Little Big Town [ tickets ] is wasting no time filling in its 2009 calendar as it gets ready to make its mark as a headlining act.

The band, which toured all year with the likes of George Strait, Martina McBride, Sugarland and Carrie Underwood, will return to the road next month for a slew of club, theater, casino, fair and festival performances stretching into October. The inaugural "A Place to Land Tour" is scheduled to kick off Jan. 24 in Jacksonville, FL, and visit cities all over the US. Confirmed dates are listed below and more will be added, according to a press release.

Up-and-coming country acts including Zac Brown Band, Ashton Shepherd, Jonathan Singleton & the Grove, and Kate & Kacey will handle opening duties.

Little Big Town's third album, "A Place to Land," surfaced last year on the Equity Music Group indie label and was rereleased in October on Capitol Nashville. The new version features four additional cuts, including "Life In A Northern Town," a collaboration with Sugarland and Jake Owen that is up for a Grammy Award.

"A Place to Land" has spawned the Top 40 country hits "Fine Line" and "I'm With the Band," and the album's latest single, "Good Lord Willing," just debuted on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. All of those tunes are streaming at Little Big Town's MySpace page.

Fans can also catch the group this Thursday (12/18) on NBC-TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," and LBT bandmates Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook will sing the National Anthem before the Dec. 21 Tennesee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game.
